스티브 잡스 어록

혁신가, 예술가였던 스티브 잡스는 대단한 화술가였습니다.
기억할 만한 그의 말들입니다.

만일 사람들의 애플에 대한 로맨스는 가고 사람이 발명한 대단한 상품으로만 기억된다면 애플의 끝이라고 느끼겠지만, 사람들이 그런 감정을 계속 느낀다면 나는 내 유전자가 애플 속에 살아 있다고 느낄 겁니다.

“If Apple becomes a place where computers are a commodity item, where the romance is gone, and where people forget that computers are the most incredible invention that man has ever invented, I’ll feel I have lost Apple. But if I’m a million miles away, and all those people still feel those things … then I will feel that my genes are still there.”



혁신을 할 때는 실수도 있습니다.
실수를 빨리 인정하고 다른 혁신에 도움이 되게 하는 게 최선입니다.

“Sometimes when you innovate, you make mistakes. It is best to admit them quickly, and get on with improving your other innovations.”



품질의 표준이 되십시요.
어떤 사람은 탁월함이 기대되는 환경에 익숙하지 않습니다.

“Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren’t used to an environment where excellence is expected.”



내 잡은 사람들을 편하게 하는 게 아니라 사람들을 더 좋게 만드는 겁니다.

“My job is to not be easy on people. My job is to make them better.”



디자인은 재미있는 말입니다.
어떤 사람은 디자인이 보이는 것이라고 하지만 디자인은 기능입니다.
Mac 디자인은 보이는 게 부분이긴 하지만 어떻게 기능을 하느냐가 진정한 디자인입니다.

“Design is a funny word. Some people think design means how it looks. But of course, if you dig deeper, it’s really how it works. The design of the Mac wasn’t what it looked like, although that was part of it. Primarily, it was how it worked.



단순한 게 복잡한 것보다 어렵습니다.
분명하게 생각하고 단순하게 만들려면 열심히 해야 합니다.
끝에 가면 그만한 가치가 있고 산도 움직일 수 있을 정도가 됩니다.

“Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.”



무덤에서 가장 부자가 되는 것은 내겐 의미가 없습니다.
밤에 잠 자려고 할 때 뭔가 근사한 일을 했다고 느껴지는 게 중요합니다.

“Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn’t matter to me. Going to bed at night saying we’ve done something wonderful, that’s what matters to me.”



훌륭한 일을 하려면 좋아하는 일을 해야 합니다.
좋아하는 일을 찾지 못했다면 안주하지 말고 찾아질 때까지 찾으십시요.

The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.



곧 죽는다고 생각하는 게 인생의 중대한 선택을 하게 하는 가장 중요한 도구라는 것을 기억하십시요.
모든 외부의 기대, 자부심, 망신, 실패에 대한 두려움은 죽음 앞에서는 별 것 아니기 때문입니다.
죽을 것이라는 것을 기억하십시요.
그래야 잃어버릴 것을 염려해 덫에 갇히는 것을 피할 수 있습니다.
이미 벌거벗었는데 마음이 원하는 것을 따르지 않을 이유가 없습니다.

“Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure — these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.”
